ABOUT CASA DE LUZ SD
CASA DE LUZ SD is a sister organization of Casa de Luz TJ a collective house open to LBGTQ+ refugees who left their home country in search of a better life. Casa de Luz SD raises money for Casa de Luz TJ so they can offer a safe haven for people who lived in fear of persecution because of their sexual orientation or gender identification.
Trans, lesbian, gay & bisexual people are fleeing from all over the world to escape "epidemic levels of violence" and threats by criminal gangs and security forces. Over 2,900 were killed in the past 5 years just in Central America.
These are the most vulnerable refugees entering the US.
OUR MISSION & HISTORY
Formerly recognized as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization in May of 2022, we were formed as a sister organization to the Tijuana site due to legal requirements from the different governments. Our board saw our first formal meeting September 2021 and have been going strong since!
The residence has 23 rooms that comfortably houses 50+ refugees awaiting asylum. We provide a safe place to stay and guidance on how to navigate the legal route to asylum into the United States. We have a collective kitchen that provides food for those in need and will provide food for those outside of the shelter at times, too. We help with getting healthcare for those who need it. We help with transportation needs to make sure the refugees can make their appointments on time. All of this run completely on donations.
NO HUMAN LIFE IS ILLEGAL
